MIRUM®

A luxury performance material

MIRUM® is a groundbreaking, plastic-free alternative to animal leather: a biobased material with a low-carbon footprint.

It emits up to 10x less greenhouse gas emissions than synthetic leather-like materials and conventional chrome-tanned leather.

1kg of MIRUM® produces roughly the same amount of CO2 as driving 5 miles in a car, or doing 1 load of laundry.

MIRUM® can be recycled or be safely returned to earth without releasing toxic chemicals.

MIRUM® is composed of responsibly-sourced natural rubber (43%), mineral fillers such as clay and silica (28%), organic cotton backer (12%), plant oils (10%), natural pigments such as biochar or iron oxide (5%) and patented plant-based curative (2%).

Biobased products are derived from raw materials such as plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials.

First Bags Made with MIRUM® To Be Manufactured in Canada

First Bags Made with MIRUM®
To Be Manufactured in Canada

MIRUM® is crafted in Illinois, and working with this innovative material presents unique challenges for manufacturers. Unlike traditional materials, MIRUM® requires specialized handling and craftsmanship, prompting luxury brands which have adopted this material to send it to Europe or Asia, where some manufacturers have developed expertise.

In our case, we sought local manufacturers committed to adapting their processes for MIRUM®. After months of rigorous testing and collaboration, a Canadian manufacturer, renowned for its excellence in the leather industry, agreed to take on this project. They embraced the challenge, making this collection of handbags the first to be crafted with MIRUM® and manufactured in Canada—a milestone we are truly proud of.

Looking Ahead

Transparency is at the heart of our philosophy.

In total, each handbag contains less than 5% plastic (eco-friendly paint, 10% glue, 90% water-based glue, thread, interior of the small loops to attach the golden handles). Looking ahead, we are committed to reducing this even further through innovative durable materials.

In an industry where vegan leather bags are typically made from 70-100% plastic, we are proud of the progress this collection represents. We hope you will appreciate and enjoy your bag as much as we have loved creating it for you.
